What is tea?

It's good for you. I'm not saying that in a joking manner,  it has some serious health benefits. You ever notice how elderly asian people are so healthy and strong? They drink a lot of tea.

Tea is the simplest yet most diverse beverage. It's just water and leaves, but it can be enjoyed plainly or with almost anything - lemon, sugar, milk, honey, and even ice. Interestingly, true teas can be steeped multiple times, some up to 10 times, and with each new steeping, the flavor changes.

Although there are various different types of teas, they all come from one plant, Camellia sinensis. The way the leaves are processed and the location of the plant determine the types which are:

White Tea - Leaf buds that are just picked and air dried.

Green Tea - Leaves are plucked and quickly heated to stop the leaves from naturally oxidizing.

Oolong Tea - Semi-oxidized leaves.

Black Tea - Fully oxidized leaves.

Pu-erh Tea - Fermented and Aged leaves.

Tisanes (herbal) - Caffeine-free. They are not true teas as they are not made from Camellia sinensis.

My good friend, Samantha Moretti, is a tea expert and she kindly agreed to get me dapperly drunk. We tasted a few different types, and my favorite was the Wild Pu-erh from In Pursuit of Tea. It's like Fall in a cup with a hint of smoke. At the end of our session, I felt very calm and relaxed as if I was high. It's a soothing feeling. If you would like to learn more about tea and how to properly brew it, head on over to In Pursuit of tea, or better yet book a session with Sam and #getteadrunk.

With this #ootd, I went for a chic look with a white spread collar shirt and a striped navy, red and white tie. Denim on denim? yes, please. You can never go wrong with a seersucker denim blazer and a nicely cuffed pair of jeans. Red spots add a nice pop! If there's one thing you should take from my posts, it's that socks are the most fun part of my outfits. All in all, I'm very happy with look, it's well coordinated and executed.

This story is that of how I got drunk drinking tea, literally.
